Kiltallagh National School is a small rural co-educational Primary School located in the heart of Castlemaine Village, Co. Kerry.
Our school first opened its doors to the community on September 6th 1938 with Rev. R.H. Thompson as its first manager. Two extensions were later built, one in 1965 and the other in 1976. Kiltallagh National School is one of only two schools in Kerry under the Church of Ireland patronage and while not all pupils are of the Church of Ireland faith, all are welcome in our school as they are in God’s house.
Kiltallagh is a very warm and welcoming school, where there is an atmosphere of mutual respect. Happiness and contentment are very evident and this plays an integral role in ensuring that the teaching and learning in our school is as effective as possible. We have a wonderfully committed, hardworking and dedicated staff here in Kiltallagh who work excellently as a team to ensure that as individuals and educators, they consistently give the very best to the children in their care.
Presently, we have two class teachers, an SET-Special Education Teacher and a part time EAL-English as an Additional Language teacher who teach 25 pupils(in total) in a multi class environment.
Many of these children avail of our school transport service which operates daily from Killarney/Beaufort/Killorglin/Milltown directly to and from our school in Castlemaine. Many of our pupils also avail of an after schools service which is in place for our children and pupils from the other local primary schools.
- Our junior room consists of junior/senior infants/1st class and 2nd class.
- Our senior room consists of 3rd to 6th class.
We also have 1 full-time Special Needs Assistant and 1 part-time secretary. Each and every member of our staff play their own very important role in assisting our school to prosper and thrive.
